KO Consulting teamed up with Renna Communications to run the media for Service Women’s Action Network’s Truth and Justice: The 2013 Summit on Military Sexual Violence. This event, held in Washington, DC April 17-18, brought together over 250 participants, 100 of whom were veteran survivors. The Summit included an Intensive Media Training in partnership with Women’s Media Center, providing skills building for 9 participants.
With morning remarks by actress Jennifer Beals, and a compelling keynote address from Senator Claire McCaskill, the week’s events shined a spotlight on issues facing survivors of military sexual violence and the need for sweeping reforms. Take a look at this clip on MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell Reports on The Ruth Moore Act, a bill that aims to fix the broken VA claims system for survivors of military sexual trauma. Here’s another piece from Maine’s Morning Sentinel about the Summit and the Voice for Change Award, given to Ruth Moore for her advocacy.
My work with SWAN will be ending this May, and I look forward to new partnerships and projects of this scale. Working with Renna Communications was fantastic, and I hope to do so again.
